The outgoing Crux won more major gravel races than any other bike in the world. Unbound, The Traka, Big Sugar, the palmares speaks for itself. Specialized built that reputation on one principle: if the bike wins at the front, it validates everything below it in the range. The Crux 5 follows that logic and adds what the original never had: aerodynamics.

The new frame is 15.2 watts faster than its predecessor, with tube profiles and an integrated cockpit directly borrowed from the Tarmac SL8. Specialized also answered the one persistent criticism of the original Crux: tire clearance. The Crux 5 runs 55mm / 2.2″, full stop. Race tires for hard-pack, volume for technical terrain, the choice is now yours without a different bike. Geometry reinforces that direction throughout: slacker head angle for confidence at speed, lower BB for stability with big tires, steeper seat angle for power transfer on long efforts. Every size from 49 to 61cm gets its own specific carbon layup, not a scaled version of a single mold.

The range runs four builds with the same platform underneath all of them. The S-Works leads with FACT 12r carbon, Terra Aero CLX wheels and SRAM RED AXS XPLR. The S-Level sits directly below with FACT 10r carbon, Terra Aero CL wheels and the same RED AXS XPLR drivetrain, at a measurably lower price without sacrificing the aero frame. The Expert brings SRAM Rival XPLR AXS and Terra C wheels for riders who want the geometry without the flagship build cost. The Comp opens the platform to a wider field with a mechanical groupset and alloy wheels.
Gravel racing has reached a point where marginal gains are no longer marginal. The top tier of Unbound, The Traka and SBT GRVL now attracts riders who came straight from WorldTour pelotons, and the equipment follows. The original Crux was already the benchmark, winning more major gravel races than any other platform. The Crux 5 responds to a field that caught up, and then some.
The 55mm clearance is the detail that matters most for the majority of riders considering this bike. It removes the only real compromise the original imposed. Riders who raced the old Crux on 45mm tires because that was the limit can now run the volume the terrain actually calls for, on the same race-optimized geometry.

The Crux 5 is for riders who race gravel seriously, or who want a bike built to that standard without the pressure of a start list. The S-Works and S-Level are for those who want no excuses at the front. The Expert and Comp are for riders who want Specialized’s fastest gravel geometry with a build they can upgrade over time. The platform is the same across all four, which is the point.
